Christian Kuchler

Christian Kuchler's rise to the top of gastronomy has been brilliant. This did not go unnoticed by the testers of the gastronomic guide Gault Millau. At the age of 24, he was named "Discovery of the Year 2010 in Eastern Switzerland" and awarded 14 points. points (Schupfen, Diessenhofen). This was followed in 2012 by a Michelin star (Gasthof Hirschen, Eglisau) and in 2014 he was "Rising Star of the Year in German-speaking Switzerland" (17 points). Since the beginning of January 2015 he is owner and chef at the Taverne zum Schäfli in Wigolingen TG. Since October 2017, the Taverne zum Schäfli has been awarded 2 Michelin stars and 18 Gault Millau points awarded.

Although the appearance of the more than 300-year-old timber-framed house is charming, you could hardly guess what high culinary standards await you inside. Host and chef Christian Kuchler masters the classic art of cooking, but with occasional creative or Asian nuances. All dishes focus on the quality of the products: they are served without superfluous gimmicks, but with precise craftsmanship and full flavors. Both the menu and à la carte options are equally enticing. They are accompanied by superb German Rieslings, excellent regional wines and reds from France and Italy with impressive vintage qualities. The ambience in the stylish and cozy parlors or on the delightful terrace is inviting. First-class service completes the excellent overall picture.
