Jan Hartwig

In May 2014, Jan Hartwig became head chef at the ATELIER restaurant in the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich. The restaurant was awarded two Michelin stars in 2015 and three from 2017 until his departure. Jan Hartwig was one of only ten three-star chefs in Germany until he left the ATELIER restaurant in 2021.

After training at the Dannenfeld restaurant in Braunschweig, he cooked at "Pomp Duck and Circumstance". In 2005, he moved to the two-star restaurant Kastell under the management of Christian Jürgens in Wernberg-Köblitz. This was followed in 2006 by a stint at the later three-star restaurant GästeHaus Klaus Erfort in Saarbrücken and from 2007 at the three-star restaurant Aqua under Sven Elverfeld in Wolfsburg, where he was sous chef from 2009.

Jan Hartwig, who only opened his own restaurant in Munich's Kunstareal, a stone's throw from Königsplatz, on October 25, 2022, was once again awarded three Michelin stars after just over five months on April 4, 2023. Like his successful pop-up on the grounds of Nymphenburg Palace, the light-flooded restaurant with an open kitchen bears the purist name "JAN".

With up to 40 seats in the restaurant and a private dining room, Jan Hartwig is fulfilling his long-held dream of professional independence. He remains true to his kitchen philosophy and line. Jan Hartwig has an equal mix of modern and classic techniques as well as traditional and sophisticated taste experiences in mind. The highest level of craftsmanship, sustainability and the best products, predominantly from the region, play just as important a role as a high degree of creativity.
